Addiction Recovery Coaching
Addiction recovery coaching recognises that addiction is a condition in which a person engages in use of a substance or in a behaviour for which the rewarding effects provide a compelling incentive to repeatedly pursue the behaviour despite detrimental consequences. Addiction may involve the use of substances such as alcohol, drugs and food, or behaviors such as gambling and sex. All addictions have the capacity to induce a sense of hopelessness and feelings of failure, as well as shame and guilt, with an increased likelihood of being accompanied by depression, anxiety or other mental health issues.
Addiction recovery coaching can support your journey to lasting recovery from addiction. You know you want to overcome addiction, but you do not necessarily know how, what to do or where to start. As your recovery coach, I understand the process of recovery. I am there to guide you through.
Like every productive process, addiction recovery coaching starts with a plan. You have a goal for recovery, and I will help you develop a plan to reach that goal. You know you want to maintain abstinence, but you are not sure what to do when the cravings start. As your recovery coach, I have the answers you need and be accessible to you in that moment. I will help you figure out how to incorporate the various tools available to recover from addiction.
I have worked with adults of all ages to maintain the path to recovery after prolonged drug and alcohol abuse. As part of my training in Psychosynthesis (which is a Psychospiritual tradition) I was trained in, and explored, the 12 Steps Process and this informs my work in the area of recovery. One of the key projects I was responsible for was working with the carers of drug and alcohol abusers. I designed and delivered a 6 month personal development programme to support mothers and wives living with addicts. Much of my work in recovery entails supporting clients to avoid relapse, stay connected to community support and work on life goals that are not related to addiction, e.g. relationships, education, work & health. My coaching is action and responsibility focused with an emphasis on improving life in the present and working on future goals.
